MM2H Criteria to Apply
Can I use my property ownership as part of the criteria to fulfill my financial requirement?
No, you can’t.
My liquid asset as my financial requirement, can they be part of shares, fixed deposits, and cash?
Yes, it can be considered as long as they are in your name or your wife’s or jointly. You will be required to show the minimum liquid asset requirement to join the MM2H program. For aged below 50, you need to show liquid assets of minimum RM500,000 and for age above 50 categories, your liquid assets required a minimum of RM350,000.
Is there a problem if I and my family having different nationalities at the time of application?
Not at all, as long as you have valid document proof of relationship.
Can a divorcee apply for their children?
Yes, as long as you have Divorce Certificate and Children Birth Certificates to proof the relationship.
Can my adopted children apply?
Yes, as long as you can show and proof with legal documents.
How can I apply for my parents to join the program?
You may apply to include your parents (aged above 60) after you have completed the endorsement of your MM2H Visa and show proof your relationship document is the most important to get successful approval. [Read: Parent Inclusion Application Process]
Getting Your MM2H Visa
Will my MM2H visa not be renewed after 10 years?
Yes, it will if you violate law and misconduct during your stay in Malaysia.
Can I transfer my visa to my new passport of a different nationality?
Yes, you can as long as you can proof documents of your new identity.
What happen if I found a job in Malaysia which I wanted to be employed?
You can opt to terminate the MM2H visa and convert it to Work Visa.
When should I extend my balance MM2H visa when I have my new passport?
Anytime after you obtain your new passport.
What happens if my dependants cannot come to Malaysia for stamping at the same time as me?
You as the main applicant must be stamped first before your dependants can do so, they can do it anytime during the 10 years or when they come into Malaysia.
What happen if I married in Malaysia and would like to apply to include my new spouse?
Yes, you may do so with proof of marriage certificate in Malaysia and endorse by your Embassy on these marriage documents.
Fixed Deposit Placement under the MM2H program
Can I place my fixed deposit in various currencies?
No, only Ringgit Malaysia is acceptable, and it has to be placed in any bank in Malaysia.
What happen to the interest earned on my Fixed Deposit?
You can withdraw them on a yearly basis where the bank will deposit into your savings account. All interest earned on MM2H Fixed Deposit is non-taxable.
Can I have my Fixed Deposit joint name with my wife?
Yes, you can have in your single name or jointly with your wife.
Can I remit back my Fixed Deposit to my country when I terminate my Malaysia My Second Home Program?
Yes, you can by informing the banker of the purpose of your transfer.
Education for your children under the MM2H program
Can my children study in Malaysian Local Government schools?
No, they cannot. They are meant for Malaysians only.
Can my children study in my country’s Government School in Malaysia, set up by my Government?
Yes, they can.
Do I need to re-apply Student Visa for my children to study?
Your children can use the MM2H visa for this purpose.
Do my children entitle to a special school fee?
All international and private schools offer the same fee for foreigners as well as Malaysians. Please check more information at the MM2H Education section.
Property Purchase under the MM2H program
Can I buy land?
Yes, you can, as long as they are eligible for foreigners and seek approval from the Foreign Investment Committee, Land Office as well as relevant authorities.
Can I buy a property and rented out?

Do I subject to taxes for rental income receivable?

What happen when I dispose of my property, do I subject to tax?
Effective 1st Jan 2014, the property gain tax for foreigners will be 30% for the first 3 years, 20% for fourth and 15% for the fifth year. After the fifth year, 5% tax. More on Property Tax and Investment at www.ExpatriateAdvisory.com.
Can I make a will for my property to my dependents?

Car Incentives under MM2H Program
Can I choose car models that are fully imported i.e. Volkswagen?
No, only all CKD cars are allowed for tax-exemption.
How long am I allowed to sell my MM2H car?
After two years of ownership, you can dispose of your MM2H car.
How can I sell off my MM2H car?
You need to apply to the Ministry of Finance and Customs Department for approvals of the current depreciated value of your car for any rebate of duties.
Can I drive with my International License in Malaysia?

I hold a residence in another country than my nationality, can I import my used car to Malaysia under MM2H program?
Yes, you can as long as you do it within 6 months from the date of MM2H visa endorsement.
Can I dispose of my MM2H imported car in Malaysia after some years?
Yes, you can as long as approvals are obtained from the Ministry of Finance and Customs Department.
