Convert Foreign Driving License to Malaysian Local License under MM2H
Latest new changes: Transport Department of Malaysia has made new announcement where participant is required personal submission, no agent allowed.
As soon as you obtained your MM2H visa, you can apply for Malaysia Local Driving License and the application can be extended to all eligible dependents. Usually, Malaysia local driving license will be approved for initial 1 year and next renewable for 5-years’ block indefinitely as long as you do not contravene with Malaysia’s law.
Basically, there are 3 categories of application to convert foreign driving license to Malaysian local license under MM2H program, depends on your nationalities as follows:-
Category 1– AUTOMATIC CONVERSION – Processing : 3 working days

Category 2 – Special Approval from Head Quarter Transport Department – Processing Time: 60 days-75 days

The Transport Department may approve your application under the “Probation” category for 2 years. After the probation period is over, you will automatically get the 5-yearly license.
Category 3 – New Application and Driving Test Required
All countries not listed in Category 1 and 2 will subjected to go through new application and driving test which include one theory paper and two practical tests conducted by the local district transport department. These tests are in English and same format as the Malaysians who are new and intend to obtain a driving license. You can check with the local driving license schools nearest to your residence for more information and costs.
